Coffee With Karl | Cleanup to Clean Energy

Join us for an all-new Coffee with Karl episode!

Department of Energy’s (DOE) “Cleanup to Clean Energy” initiative, is an innovative effort to repurpose parts of DOE-owned lands—portions of which were previously used in the nation’s nuclear weapons program—into the sites of clean-energy generation.

Working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including industry, Federal entities, tribes, state, and local officials, DOE is exploring opportunities to lease Federal land for the buildout of utility-scale clean energy projects.

Through the Cleanup to Clean Energy initiative, DOE is leveraging areas that were previously used to protect our national security and will repurpose them to the same end—this time, generating clean energy that will help save the planet and protect our energy independence.

For the Tri-Cities, eyes are on the future and what to do with about 14,000 acres adjacent to Richland. With our future on the line, Tri-Cities residents, governments, and business leaders should have a strong say in what is done on those acres.

Join us on Friday as Karl discusses the long-term economic development opportunities this program could have for the region with leaders from the Port of Benton, City of Richland, and Energy Forward Alliance.

Featured Speakers:
Diahann Howard, Executive Director, Port of Benton
Mandy Wallner, Economic Development Manager, City of Richland
Sean O’Brien, Executive Director, Energy Forward Alliance
David Reeploeg, VP Federal Program, TRIDEC
